Cable net Freeform renewed “black-ish” spin-off “Grown-ish” for a sixth season. The pickup comes a week ahead of the comedy’s Jan. 18 return to the schedule with the second half of the current season five.

“Grown-ish” follows the two oldest kids in the Johnson family, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and Andre Jr. (Marcus Scribner), as they go to college and begin their journeys to adulthood, only to quickly discover that not everything goes their way once they leave the nest. The first four seasons follow eldest daughter Zoey (Yara Shadidi), while the fifth season onward follows eldest son and Zoey’s younger brother Andre Junior (Marcus Scribner) as he attends college after Zoey’s graduation.

The series also features Trevor Jackson, Diggy Simmons and Daniella Perkins and is produced by ABC Signature. Kenya Barris, Zakiyyah Alexander, Courtney Lilly, Craig Doyle, Yara Shahidi, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins and Michael Petok serve as executive producers.
