Netflix will begin streaming “Penelope,” a coming-of-age series from Duplass Brothers Productions on Tuesday, September 24 in the U.S. The logline: Penelope (Megan Stott) is “a 16-year-old girl who, feeling deeply out of place in her contemporary surroundings, leaves her life and family behind and treks into the wilds of Washington State. As she establishes an alternative life for herself, survivalism and coming-of-age coalesce in this poignant journey toward self-discovery.”
Alongside Stott, the cast includes Austin Abrams (“Euphoria,” “The Walking Dead”) and Krisha Fairchild (“Krisha”).
Coming soon to Netflix in the US is Penelope, a young adult series produced by Duplass Brothers Productions (DBP) and created by Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn. The pilot for Penelope premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, and the indie-financed eight-episode series will begin streaming on Netflix in the United States on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Megan Stott (Little Fires Everywhere, Yes Day, Aftermath) plays the title character, a 16-year-old who feels out of place in modern society and is drawn into the unknown wilderness, where she begins to form a new life for herself. Austin Abrams (Euphoria, Dash & Lily, Do Revenge) also stars as Sam; Krisha Fairchild (Krisha, Channel Zero, Freeland) as Helena; and Rhenzy Feliz (The Penguin, All Together Now, Encanto) as Peter.
Eslyn, president of DBP, also directs the series and serves as showrunner. Duplass co-wrote the series with Eslyn during the pandemic, and Mark Duplass’ brother Jay Duplass executive-produces alongside Shuli Harel.
DBP previously produced the docuseries Wild Wild Country for Netflix. The series went on to win the 2018 Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series. Duplass Brothers Productions also produced for Netflix Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist, Paddleton, and American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders. As an actor, Mark Duplass has appeared in The Morning Show, Your Sister’s Sister, Togetherness (which he co-created with Jay Duplass), and many other film and TV projects.
